Lost & Found

Items found by the driver of a District of Columbia taxicab are returned to the Taxicab Commission.

To determine if your item/s are located at the Taxicab Commission, please do one of the following:

  • Email the Commission.
  • Call the Commission at (202) 645-6018 between 8:30 am and 4 pm EST.
  • Fax the Commission at (202) 889-3604.

Leave your name, daytime telephone number, a brief description of the item and the date it was lost. If an item is turned in matching the description, you will be contacted for further information.

If the item is a cellular telephone, please leave the model, serial number, IMEI, PIN and cellular telephone number. Cellular telephones, if not claimed within six months, are donated to charity.

If you have a completed receipt from your trip, please copy it at 200 percent and fax it to the number above. If you know the name, ID number and vehicle license plate number, please include the information.

Our normal office hours are 8:30 am to 4 pm, Monday-Friday, excluding holidays. If the item was lost over the weekend, allow two to three days for the driver to return the item.

Local pick-up: (You must provide a picture ID for local pick-up)

Have the item shipped to you or another address:

Provide a container for the item. If the item is a piece of luggage or larger,  we will tape the item and prepare for shipping.

Provide a pre-paid shipping label with your address or an address when the item is to be shipped.

We will call the service when the item is ready for shipment or transport the item to the shipper.
